Business Case When the Institute for Healthcare Improvement launched its Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) initiative, Springhill Medical Center wanted to fully support IHI’s VAP guidelines in its intensive care units. Clinical leaders identified a best-practice protocol for management of patients with VAP, and set out to incorporate the resulting protocol across disciplines, providing point-of-care information to physicians. In the Springhill Emergency Department, meanwhile, increasing demands were placed on clinical staff to improve operating efficiencies, patient satisfaction and quality. Leadership wanted an advanced clinical information system with evidence-based content that could be easily integrated with legacy hospital systems.
